Meteor Rockstar, Kristy
Meteor client, Kristy actually worked with us back in 2021 during a marathon buildup on general fueling practices. She “ate up” the fueling strategies that allowed her to achieve PRs in the marathon and half marathon that season.
A few years down the road, Kristy began noticing some changes in her performance, cardiac function, and anxiety levels. She reached back out to Meteor for guidance after she was sent home from a general practitioner with a prescription to blunt the anxiety and no further work up.
We began asking a lot of questions and encouraged her to get labs. Upon lab work up, we found her ferritin levels to be in the single digits. Considering we have worked with Kristy, we were confident her fueling was up to speed and began questioning WHY her ferritin had dropped that low. With more questions, we decided it may be appropriate for her to be referred to a gastroenterologist and to be tested for celiac disease (she had family history) . Low and behold, her tests were + for celiac.
I share, because with asking a few more questions and aiming to treat the root cause, a few months later of treating the actual root of Kristy’s symptoms, Kristy is running PR times at altitude! Her anxiety has diminished and she’s feeling more like herself!
The take home message here is find providers that ask questions or will refer to the appropriate colleagues. Advocate for your health. I’m so so proud of Kristy as a client, now teammate, and friend for showing us what that looks like! She didn’t need a bandaid for anxiety, she needed someone to ask more questions.
