I was referred to Kelsey by different friends and professionals associated with the PRS Running Club in Jacksonville. I was continuing to have both nagging and complex injuries that continued to serve as obstacles I couldn't quite overcome with my running goals. I previously pursued various other therapy approaches (physical therapy, chiropractor, strength training, rest, etc.), and I received suggestions that my setbacks might be rooted from a nutritional level.
I seemed to be in a cycle of injuries - either soft tissue, muscle, tendon, bone, or any combination of the above. During a consultation with a physical therapist, they suggested I might be experiencing RED-S, and recommended seeing Kelsey with Meteor Nutrition. With the various injuries, hormonal imbalances, and not having a clear vision of my nutritional needs, I knew these were going to be pretty complex challenges I needed to seek support for from a professional that has deeply enriched knowledge on running, hormones, nutrition, and compassion.
I was unintentionally not fueling best for my performance, and I would become frustrated with my running and cycles of injuries - thinking I was following all the "rules" of "eating healthy" and yet still couldn't persevere through setbacks. When working with Kelsey, my biggest frustrations with nutrition came internally from breaking down stigmas and societal norms around food that have been so engrained in me and what I learned through culture, customs, and media.
The primary catalyst toward success was Kelsey providing me concrete guidance on what my individual needs were, grounded in bloodwork of hormones and comprehensive panels. Since then, I have been working with an endocrinologist to assist with my hormonal recovery coupled with my nutritional guidance with Kelsey. While I am still in active recovery from RED-S, there have been many emotional, physical, and mental indicators of success I can be proud of.
I am still taking on each day one day at a time, while also reflecting on and keeping my purpose and goals at the foundation. There are challenging days to meet all the nutritional need checkboxes and all the performance benchmarks, and there are also days where my nutritional, athletic, and emotional performances are hitting home runs. Kelsey helped me understand that progress is not linear. Yet, I cannot ignore the primary indicators that are showing me I have made great, positive strides since working with Kelsey.
