Brigit has been a ray of sunshine in some very dark times for me. I was referred to Meteor Nutrition by my running coach after DNFing two races — a 10 miler and a half marathon. These weren’t just DNFs due to running out of energy or going out too fast. Near the end of both, I became extremely dizzy and disoriented, nearly passing out and having to pull myself off the course. I couldn’t walk straight (you would’ve thought I was drunk) and actually threw up at the half marathon.
As you can imagine, these experiences were very scary and alarming for both me and my coach. My training had gone extremely well, I was practicing fueling on my long runs, and I was crushing my shorter races. After asking questions about my day-to-day diet, my coach realized I wasn’t getting proper nutrition — enter Brigit.
I didn’t know what to expect. I had never worked with a dietitian before, and had always considered myself a pretty healthy eater. I also played soccer through college, and only recently started running after graduation. I had never experienced any symptoms like what I mentioned above in my games. I naïvely thought the way I ate as a soccer player was sufficient enough for running. (I was obviously wrong.)
Within the first week of working with Brigit she helped me figure out what was missing from my diet — and let me tell you, there was A LOT. In fact, my diet wasn’t enough even for someone who doesn’t exercise. Brigit has not only taught me how to properly fuel for runs and races, but for normal, non-active days to keep my body healthy — and she made it incredibly easy to do. It’s crazy what happens when you start eating the proper amount of carbs and protein — I realized the way I felt before wasn’t normal. I wasn’t tired 24/7 anymore. I had more energy. I didn’t feel randomly faint or dizzy during the day, or see black when I stood up. My heart rate decreased — my easy runs used to be 170-180 bpm. They’re now in the 150s.
I have been working with Brigit for almost a year now, and in between this time I unfortunately suffered from an IT band injury. Brigit helped me heal and come out even stronger on the other side. She even helped me find my doctor and PT — above and beyond!
She has also been like a therapist to me. (Sorry Brigit.) My body has changed since improving my diet. At first, it was weird gaining weight, and I definitely had bad body image days. She helped me through it all. Her bedside manner is incredible. She is empathetic, relatable, and always makes me feel heard.
To summarize, Brigit has completely changed my life. I have become healthier and more knowledgeable, both as an athlete and woman. She has helped me be grateful for and love my body. She has helped me conquer injuries, illnesses, and digestive issues. Everything I have gained is priceless. Whether you’re an athlete or not, you will 100% benefit from working with Brigit.
